Bikecation started as a conversation between Jamie Paterson and Rob Penn about the simple pleasures of a bike ride, something we know well and want to share.
Rob Penn’s first bike was a purple Raleigh Tomahawk. His elder, taller brother rode a Chopper. It was an issue: in many ways, it still is. He has ridden a bicycle most days of his adult life, in over 40 countries on five continents. He gave up a job as a City lawyer in his late 20′s to cycle round the world. His bestselling book, It’s All About the Bike: the Pursuit of Happiness on Two Wheels has been translated into nine languages. It was made into a BBC documentary, Ride of My Life.
Jamie first nudged the speedo past the magical 40mph aged 11, in 1978, on the hill between Horsmonden and Lamberhurst, Kent, on his Raleigh Hustler. A businessman, he has over two decades of experience running businesses in the UK and USA. A passionate sportsman and marathon runner, he got back on a bike in his early 40s. Jamie is now making up for lost two-wheel time.

“It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.” – Ernest Hemingway
