Day 1

  • Arrive to Lille and transfer to Ypres. There is just time for a nice 40km warm up ride before dinner at a nice French restaurant. The 40km takes in the Ypres Salient : Essex Farm, Langemark, Passchendaele, Tyne Cot, Hill 60, and Messines. All tragic and fasinating landmarks within the famous Flanders Fields of World War 1.

Day 2

  • After breakfast you transfer to Arras. 45km and a hearty lunch get you used to being out on the bike. Today you take in the N-D de Lorette, visit the Ring, the Vimy Ridge Memorial, the trenches & tunnels, Telus, Monchy-le-Preux  and the 37th British Div Memorial.

Day 3

  • A short transfer to Albert sees you visit the Musee de Somme and the Monument aux Morts. Then a 65km bike ride takes you to the Lochnagar Crater, the Welsh memorial, Beaumont-Hamel,  Ulster Tower, Thiepval Memorial, Pozières, Longueval and Guillemont. A truly inspirational bike ride.

Day 4

  • Just time for a 50km bike ride before the Eurostar back to London from Lille. Today you visit the old town of Lens, La Bassée, Aubers Ridge, Fromelles, as well as a quick visit to the museum here.

The trip was fantastic. The bikes were top notch, the hotels were good, routes were superb but what really made a good trip into an unforgettable one was Carl. He was simply brilliant and I can’t speak highly enough about him. He brought the History to life and on one or two occasions brought a tear to my eye. I learn’t so much on the trip and appreciated what the soldiers of WW1 did for us so much more. He kept us on schedule { not an easy thing to do } and worked extremely hard to make the trip so enjoyable for us - James W
