Coll d'Beixalis

In 2014 the Coll d'Beixalis was a forest fire road. The climb didn't exist till 2015 when they paved the forest track specifically for the 2015 Vuelta a España. The Coll d'Beixalis climbs up from Vila and appeared twice in last year's Vuelta. It is steepest at the bottom and is a total of 6.4km at 8.5%. It has appeared in the Tour de France as well as the Vuelta and is revered locally.

The Climb in Detail

“The start of this climb is really hard.” - Thomas Richards, Bikecation Bike Guide

The Ascents

Starting in Encamp, the road ramps brutally to 14% and then just as you begin to hope for rest, kicks again to 17%. You get some respite through the village of Vila and then the road ramps again to 13% average for nearly 2k. The vegetation is thick here, but as it thins out, so the gradient decreases and you get amazing views back to the valley you have climbed out of. The rest of the climb is much easier on you... other than the odd 10% ramp.
