Colle del Barbotto

Deep in the heart of Pantani country on the Adriatic Coast, the Colle del Barbotto is one of a series of climbs you can do on and off the same ridge. The Colle del Barbotto is the hardest of the nine climbs that form the Nove Coli sportive. The climb is 4.6km long and the first 3.5km are feasable, and almost nice. There are a few short sharp ramps, but nothing most riders can't cope with. The sting in the tail however is the last 900m. It is horrible, averaging 14-18%. However, for those that winch themselves to the top there is a good cafe and a great view!

The Climb in Detail

The Ascent

The Colle del Barbotto is a locals' favourite and has been attempted 22,636 times (and counting) on Strava in this cycling mad area of Italy. The first 3km is about 6% and other than two steep ramps of 30m each there is nothing to fear. Once you go round a series of hairpins, you see a small villa on the hill and realise that the last 900m up to this ridgeline will be hard. Averaging 15% with ramps of 18% it feels as if gravity has been turned up, however be safe in the knowledge that it is only short. Struggle to the top and the views are magnificient.
