La Mussara

La Mussara can be seen from the coast of the Costa Dorada and the mobile phone masts atop the hill taunt you as you make your way upwards. The climb is not particularly difficult, but it affords you great views back to the coast and a stunning ridge ride if you are to loop back towards the coast. La mussara is the highest point in the area and the good news is that there are only 30 days a year of rain in the area, so you have a great chance to take in these views!

The Climb in Detail

“A climb for those with strength in the legs.” - Juan, Rodabike Owner

The Ascent

The ascent to La Mussara is 10km long, but to get to the base, (chances are you started on the coast) you must ride 20km and climb 350m from sea level. It makes for a nice appetiser before the main dish. The climb is not particularly hard and averages 6%. There are frequent flatter sections and the steeper sections are all short enough not to worry most riders. You climb 626m over the 10km and the views back towards the coast on a clear day are magnificent.

Testing Training and Racing

The area is popular with pro teams, with both Giant Alpecin and Team Wiggins using the area in the beignning of the season for race training and testing. The near gauranteed weather and quietness of the area make it ideal for this. The tour of Catalunya has also been know to pass through the area on occasion.

The Ghost Town

A wierder story about La Mussara is here. The old abandoned ruins of the village apparently have many super natural stories associated with them!
