Rimini and Riccione

Cycling the Adriatic Coast

You may not think of Rimini and Riccioney as one of the premier cycling locations in Europe but for years the area has become synonymous with cycling, being the birthplace of Marco Pantani and also of the cycle sportive, with the Nove Colli.

Rimini, often referred to as the capital of Italian seaside tourism and nightlife. It has 15km of fine sandy beach with top-rate bathing facilities. The seaside promenade is lined with restaurants, hotels, and nightclubs with the city itself boasting an interesting historic centre, Roman ruins, and museums.

The less famous twin town of Rimini, Riccione is also one of Italy’s most famous sea side towns offering an abundance of hotels, restaurants and nightclubs much like Rimini.

Cattolica is a quieter option to the South of Rimini and Ricione. Tourism has been important in this old Roman town for centuries as it was originally a resting place for pilgrims on there way to Rome.

The Hills of Emilia-Romanga and San marino

The final option is to stay up in the hills. We have several natural thermal spa options for complete peace and tranquility, including some luxury hotels in San Marino.

Bike difficulty

Difficulty level

The area of coastline is famous for being many athletes training ground and this is mainly due to the huge variety of terrain. This means both rolling terrain and more of a climb centric route can be designed depending on how difficult you would like the riding to be. Seek out the Colle del Barbotto if you like your climbing. Read more about our visit to the Adriatic coast here.

Bike best times

Best time to go

The weather along the Adriatic coastline is glorious most of the year but to avoid the crowds that flock to the beach and to the nightclubs in the months of July and August it is best to visit and go riding in either Spring or Autumn. Please also note the sportive Nove Collli in May.
