Cycling in Sierra Nevada

Andalucia in the south of Spain and especially the Sierra Nevada is a haven for cyclists. With it’s wide open quiet roads, near all year sun, picturesque climbs and beautiful scenery it is amazing what you can pack in to a handful of days on the bike.

Sierra Nevada

The Sierra Nevada is a dramatic, rugged and extensive mountain range, the highest in Europe after the Alps, and a cyclist's paradise.

The city of Granada sits in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The compelling city has a host of attributes including its grand examples of Moorish architecture as well as its Arab-flavoured street life. The city is the perfect location to attempt the highest road in Europe, the Pico de Veleta.

Bike best times

Best time to go

The climate in Southern Spain makes this destination pleasant all year round but you will find more skiing then cycling in the Sierra Nevada during the winter. The best times to visit to attempt the big peaks would be between June and September although make sure you pack the sun screen!
