Yorkshire Dales

The breath-taking landscape of the Yorkshire Dales has been attracting visitors for years due to it being designated as a National Park and also an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area has also always been known as a cycling haven but even more so since the 2014 Grand Depart of the Tour de France. When riding through the towns and villages you will still notice the old yellow, red polka dot and green bikes that were installed for the celebration of the Tours visit.

From its incredible limestone formations and contrasting heather clad moorland to its rich and full meadows separated by its famous dry-stone walls the Yorkshire Dales is truly a picturesque place to visit. The towns and villages that dot the landscape each have their own individual look and feel to them adding the allure of the area.

The delightful market town of Skipton is located to the south of the Yorkshire Dales national park. Skipton overlooks Aire Gap which separates the Craven limestone dales to the north from the gritstone moors to the south and the pastoral Ribble Valley to the west thus allowing you the chance to explore all these different areas.

Bike highlights

Route highlight

Climbs like Fleet Moss, Grinton Moor and the Col de Buttertubs have become sinonimous to the region since being used in the Tour de France and Tour de Yorkshire but why not try the Cote de Lofthouse near Pateley Bridge for a typical Yorkshire climb

Bike difficulty

Difficulty level

The riding in Yorkshire is some of the most difficult in the UK. With undulating hills and gritty roads, you’ll want to prepare for some incredible days in the saddle. Nothing compares to completing a day’s ride in the Dales and is well recommended

Bike best times

Best time to go

The Yorkshire Dales has some of the lushest green countryside in Britain as it does have a tendency to rain, but there is no better scenery in the UK when the sun does appear. Maximise daylight hours and visit between April and October
