Cycling Holidays in Bordeaux

Situated in southwestern France, the ancient port city of Bordeaux is famous worldwide for its wine production. As the capital of the Aquitaine region, it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and has everything you could wish to experience. From grandiose 18th century architecture, to the cordon bleu of French cuisine. The banks of the  Garonne are lined with boutique shops, narrow alleys and hidden away trendy bohemian gems, as it flows gently through the city, and for art lovers there’s the  Musée des Beaux Arts and the CAPC Museum of Contemporary Art. Countless cafes and bars allow time to relax and soak up the unique atmosphere.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Bordeaux

Your hotel is ideally located to discover the delights of Bordeaux, with its numerous relaxing green open spaces, its exceptional heritage, and the quality of life naturally punctuated with gastronomic pleasures and nocturnal parties.

Day 2: Bordeaux - Cadillac (49 km / 30 miles)

Proud of its new transport facilities, Bordeaux has shown its dedication to cyclists, by providing routes and tracks throughout the city. These allow you to easily leave the town centre, riding on original and rustic cycling paths, leading  to Créon, a typical fortified village of this area. Then, continue through the vineyards of Cadillac until you reach the surrounding wall of the village.
An optional extra night can be arranged along with a 50 km bike ride loop that will allow you to discover the the Sauternes vineyards.

Day 3: Cadillac - St Emilion (50 km / 31 miles)

This stage allows you to ride through the heart of ‘Entre-deux Mers’ vineyards, from the Garonne to the Dordogne river. You will have the opportunity to visit the charming village of Rauzan, overlooked by its dignified medieval chateau, before reaching the prestigious village of Saint-Emilion, one of the richest villages in history.

Day 4: St Emilion - Blaye (64 km / 40 miles)

Leave this city, the symbol of the region’s vintage wines, to ride along Bordeaux vineyards, which owe their memorable success to the soil ‘Bordeaux Supérieur’ and continue on to the Côtes de Blaye AOC vineyards. Blaye is known for its citadel overlooking the Gironde river, dignified and magnificent, it was built by Vauban during the 17th century and has been classified as having great historical importance.

Day 5: Blaye - Bordeaux (61 km / 38 miles)

Start this ride with a Gironde river, crossing by boat to reach Lamarque and its famous Médoc vineyards and chateaux wine cellars. For the more courageous wine lovers, an escapade to Pauillac is a must! Then, for a wonderful finish, have a luxury break at the prestigious Château Margaux, before reaching Bordeaux.

Day 6: Bordeaux

Departure after breakfast.

Due to organisational reasons, weather conditions or provisions issued by local authorities, the itinerary may be subject to some changes before and/or during the holiday.

Along the way you may find temporary deviations (for example road works) which cannot be foreseen; in this case each rider can decide autonomously how to deal with these stretches.

Testimonial

We had a great trip. Good bikes that were lovely to cycle and the staff adjusted the saddle height to suit us very well. Lovely hotels overall with good food and boutique feel. Bags always arrived on time and hotels let us check in early. Really enjoyed this well organised trip. - Therese
