Cycling Holidays in Normandy

The coastal region of Normandy in northern France has been named as one of the top places to visit in France, and is rich with ancient and more modern historical sites.
Our cycling holiday in Normandy leads you gently towards Brittany, via the thought provoking, emotionally charged Landing Beaches towards the picturesque Bessin region, before continuing to the spectacular Mont St Michel Bay. This whole area is known for its bocage landscape features - open rolling land separated by ridges of beautifully shaded woodlands and copses.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Bayeux (51 km / 32 miles) - Loop

Bayeux is renowned the world over for its amazing 11th century Tapestry, which  shows the conquest of England by William Duke of Normandy.
A scenic loop will bring you to Omaha Beach, site of the famous landings. Here, you can experience history, walking on the sandy shoreline, before reaching the American cemetery. Then continue the ride to the Pointe du Hoc,  one of the strategic points in the German fortifications along the Normandy coast. Then, follow the seaside route to Colleville Sur Mer, and the very impressive American cemetery, before ending back in the historic Bayeux.

Day 2: Bayeux - Villers Bocage (40 km / 25 miles)

Enjoy the beautiful lanes routes to the Bessin meandering through the picturesque lands and fields towards the Abbey of Mondaye, before cycling on to the village of Villers Bocage.

Day 3: Villers Bocage - Vire (46 km / 28 miles)

Keep cycling into the Norman Bocage, from small, peaceful villages to green pastures before reaching the Souleuvre river. Here, you will see the imposing Viaduct dating from 1887. In this idyllic setting, why don’t you test your nerves with bungy jumping? Continue along the Voie Verte cycling path which leads you to Vire, a city rich in mediaeval history.

Day 4: Vire - St Hilaire du Harcouët (55 km / 34 miles)

Leave the fortified city of Vire and follow the Voie Verte through Normandy’s green bocage, riding up and down smooth rolling hills and small woods. Make a stop in Mortain, nestled into the side of a cliff, with gorgeous views over cascading waterfalls and into the valley. Continue to St Hilaire du Harcouët.

Day 5: St Hilaire du Harcouët - Pontorson / Mont St Michel (56 km / 35 miles)

Still on the peaceful Voie Verte, ride towards the imposing, ancient Mont St Michel. Enjoy splendid and unforgettable views over the bay, with the salt marshes in the foreground and the Occident Marvel slowly appearing on the horizon.

Testimonial

We had a great trip. Good bikes that were lovely to cycle and the staff adjusted the saddle height to suit us very well. Lovely hotels overall with good food and boutique feel. Bags always arrived on time and hotels let us check in early. Really enjoyed this well organised trip. - Therese
