Come and discover the wonderful Alentejo region on this fantastic cycle tour. The Vicentine Coast Natural Park is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and this tour takes you through this beautiful area. This south-western landscape is one of the best-preserved all over Europe and there is hardly any evidence of human interference. There is a huge range of landscapes: beaches, cliffs and isolated islets. Enjoy swimming in the crystal-clear turquoise sea and spotting the variety of maritime birds. This tour offers spectacular views and takes you to the south-westernmost point in continental Europe, Cape S. Vicente.

You will also have the chance to visit Sagres, the renowned beaches of Algarve and the cosmopolitan city of Lagos. Explore the fascinating history of the area through the fort and the wall ruins that surround the town of Lagos.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Sines

Arrive at Lisbon airport. There will then be a 2 hour drive to Sines and a short briefing about the tour. Tonight, you will stay in a gorgeous 4* hotel where you can find several references to Portugal’s greatest navigator ‘Vasco da Gama’.You will have time to preapre for your leisure cycling holiday in Portugal and take in some of the local beaches in the Alentejo area. 

Day 2: Sines - Vila Nova Milfontes (41 km / 25 miles)

We start today by cycling into the South West Alentejo Natural Park, one of the best-preserved coasts in the whole of Europe. We will journey to the fishing village of Porto Covo and enjoy the fabulous beaches before heading to Vila Nova Milfontes. We will have a picnic lunch and have dinner with the group. Tonight, we stay in a small town known as a Touristic Paradise.

Day 3: Vila Nova Milfontes - Odexeixe (59 km / 36 miles)

This morning we cycle towards Cape Sardao, a perfect spot for meditation. We visit Zambujeira do Mar, have a picnic lunch and finish in Odexeixe, another village situated right by the sea. This evening we have dinner with the group and stay in Bed & Breakfast accommodation which has a swimming pool.

Day 4: Odexeixe - Carrapateira (49 km / 30 miles)

After breakfast we cycle in the direction of Aljezur, with a castle on top of the hill dating back to the 10th century. We continue southwards and ride through enchanting woodland, hills and valleys before reaching Carrapateira, a surfer’s heaven. Tonight, we stay in a small house in a very traditional village near the west coast of the Algarve, a very peaceful area.

Day 5: Carrapateira - Sagres (32 km / 20 miles)

We begin today by cycling to the south-western most point in Europe, Cape S. Vincent. This offers stunning and breath-taking views! Tonight, we stay in a 4* new hotel with a swimming pool, in Sagres. It Is encircled by spectacular deserted beaches and gorgeous landscapes.

Day 6: Sagres - Lagos (47 km / 29 miles)

After breakfast we cycle along the south coast of the Algarve and can see the difference between the Natural Park and the touristic Algarve. We visit Ponta da Piedade which offers tremendous views, before reaching Lagos. Tonight, we stay in a beautiful 4* hotel with blue and white corridors which link the rooms, patios, restaurants and bar. Upon arrival, take a refreshing swim in the pool.

Day 7: Lagos

Departure after breakfast.

 

Due to organisational reasons, weather conditions or provisions issued by local authorities, the itinerary may be subject to some changes before and/or during the holiday.

Along the way you may find temporary deviations (for example road works) which cannot be foreseen; in this case each rider can decide autonomously how to deal with these stretches.
