Devon Coast to Coast

Running from Ilfracombe to Plymouth the Devon coast to coast takes in beaches, rivers and stunning views of Dartmoor leaving the impression that you’re pedalling through a storybook.

This ride is ideal for familes and children as of the 99 miles, 71 are traffic free! Largely following fomer railway lines, there are few hills as you ride through tunnels and across Victorian viaducts and bridges.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Ilfracombe

Arrive in Ilfracombe. Enjoy a bite to eat or maybe a cream tea in a delightful tea shop and catch a good night’s sleep. Your Devon coast to coast adventure starts tommorrow morning.

Day 2: Ilfracombe to Merton – approx 40 miles

After a full and filling breakfast you will cycle south on a traffic free path before joining quiet roads with amazing views of the bay. At Brauton a 30 mile stretch of traffic free route begins. You ride through Barnstaple, Bideford and Torrington. The path follows the rivers of the Taw and Torridge and so is flat. Your destination for the night is Merton, a delightful little Devonshire town.

Day 3: Merton to Tavistock - approx 40 miles

You start today on quiet roads before joining the Granite way and winding your way down to Travistock. You crest the high point of the ride near Yelverton and at this point are on traffic free paths again.

Day 4: Tavistock to Plymouth  - approx 19 miles

Joining the Drakes trail and crossing the Gem Bridge you will find yourself in Plymouth in no-time. On arrival to Plymouth you will travel along the seafront, past the famous Lido and be able to grab a well-earned finish-line ice-cream.
