Fantastic roads, good climbs and fine weather make Nice a first-class destination for a long weekend of cycling. The quiet mountain roads and the medieval villages of the Alpes Maritimes seem a world away from the glamour and hustle of the Côte d'Azur, but they are within easy reach. The area is also steeped in road cycling lore. The Col de la Madone, made famous by Lance Armstrong, is an easy ride from Nice. Col de Braus and Col d'Eze, which features in the final stage of Paris-Nice, are also nearby. In fact, many epic battles of this classic race have been fought in these mountains. Nice and the surrounding hills is still a popular training ground for pro cyclists today.
