Bellagio, Lake Como, Italy

Cycling in the Bellagio and around the Lake Como area, you will come across some of the prettiest riding in the whole of Europe. Bellagio is a stunning lakeside town - known for its breath-taking villas, pretty cobbled streets and stupendous views from its position on the southern peninsula of Lake Como.

Where to Ride?

The lake road for Lake Como, although beautiful, can be busy. Our advice is to head for the hills surrounding the lake. These roads are the same roads used by the pros in the Giro di lombardia. The hill are not hugely high, but they can be steep. Once away from the lake road, the roads are quiet and the views magnificent. Don't miss riding the famous climb of Il Ghisallo - with the bike shrine and museum at the top - or taking on the viciously steep ramps of the Muro di Sormano.

Where to Stay?

Our favourite hotel is the Il Pero Panorama. Based 3000m out of Bellagio, perched on top of the hill, this hotel is perfect for cyclists and affords you amazing views, quiet relaxation, and a great stay. Contact us for more recommendations.

Where to Eat?

You are spoilt for choice in Bellagio for where to eat. All of the Italian classics are on the menu with great pasta to help fuel your riding. Being sat on the lake there is plenty of fresh fish on offer while cured meats are also popular in the area. For oenologists, we recommend the wine at Cava Turacciolo as well as their cheese and meat platters.

What to do, other than ride?

Other than cycling and spending time around the lake; boating, wine tasting and visiting the monastries and large villas in the area are all highly recommended

What Climb not to miss?

Don't miss climbing the Il Ghisallo and visiting the bike museum at the top, or taking on the 25% ramps of the Muro di Sormano

What you didn't know about Bellagio?

George Clooney has a summer house near by, and can often be spotted taking a coffee in Bellagio!
