Bormio, Italian Alps

Historically Bormio has always been important as the meeting point of four valley passes, (Stelvio, Umbrail, Foscagno and the Gavia). These 'old' roads then follow the River Adda to Lake Como. Bormio has natural thermal baths that have attracted tourists to the area for centuries and is a busy Ski resort. However it's location as the meeting point of these four high mountain passes makes it a cycling paradise.

Where to Ride?

Head uphill on any road in almost any direction and you will follow in the tire tracks of the Giro d'italia. You are truly spoilt for choice here for riding. The Stelvio and the Gavia are the two best known climbs.

Where to Stay?

Our recomendation is to stay in the Hotel Funivia. This family run hotel is super bike friendly, and even has in-house guides and mechanics. They love bikes and are keen cyclists themselves. They provide a packed lunch, routes and a pool, sauna and Turkish bath for recovery! Contact us to discuss other options or if you have any questions.

Where to Eat?

Our favourite restaurants in Bormio are:

Vecchia Combo - Great local food

Keller Steak House - For the best Steak North of Milan!

Ristorante Hotel Genzianella - Your traditional Family restaurant (and they love cyclists)

What to do, other than ride?

Other than ride; take in the mountian air, walk, visit the thermal baths and relax. There are the usual other mountian activities, susch as paragliding, but in Bormio, you have to love the outdoors!

What Climb not to miss?

Don't miss climbing the Stelvio, Mortirolo or the Gavia.

What you didn't know about Bormio?

Due to its thermal baths at Bagni Vecchi, Bagni Nuovi and Terme di Bormio, Bormio has long been a tourist attraction. Members of the Roman aristocracy travelled to Bormio in order to enjoy warm baths in the mountainous scenery. Most of these thermal baths are still in use today!
